Ridable Toy Trains

Toys play an important role in child development. They are used to provide kids endless hours of fun with themselves and with other kids. But more than that, toys educate kids about a lot of things in the world.

Some of the most popular toys are replicas of real vehicles. And some of the most favored replicas are toy trains. Indeed, toy trains are so popular that even adults play with them!

Toy trains can range from really small (a few inches long) up to as big as a feet or two, making them ridable. Young children want the bigger ones that they can ride on. Today, a lot of toy stores offer toy trains that children can ride, and they can be of different materials.

1. Toy Trains for kids
Ridable toy trains that are made of wood are available in many toy stores. These big toys are built sturdily and can hold the weight of one or more kids.

If the stocks in toy stores are not of your wanting, you can actually have one made! All you need to do is to find some plans and a good carpenter to follow those plans. Most of the blueprints of a do-it-yourself train can be downloaded from the Internet or purchased in a toy store or a do-it-yourself shop. If these are unavailable, you can download a nice picture of a train and have a carpenter design the actual train.

A Wooden train can also be built as a family project. This can be a lot of fun.

The downside here is that making a wooden train is time consuming and requires considerable skill to put together. If built improperly, the train can collapse from the weight when one rides it. Or it may be imbalanced. It is usually better to have someone build it or buy a ready-made one.

2. Plastic trains
As with toy trains wooden, plastic trains that can be ridden with kids are available in many toy stores. The plastic used on these trains are tough and can easily hold the weight of a kid or two.

Also these trains come in a variety of colors, making them very visually appealing to kids. They come in a lot of designs and sizes.

The main disadvantage of plastic trains is that they are predesigned. That means, you can’t really customize them to your liking. Of course, you can add features and other accessories, but this is discouraged since it may compromise the integrity of the toy.

3. Metal trains
Unlike plastic trains or wood toy trains, toy trains made of metal are not common. These are not available in toy stores. As such, they can only be custom made.

Due to the construction, metal trains are the sturdiest thanks to the tough braces that used to form the train’s shape. And because the frames are either welded or bolted, there is less change of the toy being damaged or destroyed even if the weight of the person or persons riding in it slightly exceeds the allowable limit.

Because of the materials used, metal trains are very expensive, usually more costly than high-quality wood trains toys or plastic trains.
