Your kid learns the world around him through the use of his five senses: sight, touch, smell, hearing, and taste. Your kid learns about shapes and colors by seeing the objects around him; he is acquainted with tunes, melodies and rhythms by listening to the songs on his musical toy or hearing the sounds of cars or the wind gushing; he is introduced to a variety of tastes when you feed him with different vegetables and fruits; he learns about soft, hard, smooth and rough when touches different objects and he experiences different aromas and scents by sniffing up the cake you’re baking in the kitchen or the smell of shampoo in your hair.

This is the very reason why it is significant that you offer a variety of opportunities for sensory exploration and discovery and to stimulate his senses for his optimal learning. Providing him with a rich learning and playing environment is the key in boosting his senses. By giving him toys and activities that will refine his senses, you’re helping him learn about the world around him better.  

Toys that cater not only to one but to a multiple senses are good learning tools that will aid in his proper development. Wooden toys like wooden trains are excellent examples of such toys.

For one, wooden train sets are effective enhancers of his visual perception. By allowing him to explore different play pieces of different shapes, colors and sizes, your kid’s visual discrimination is enhanced. By letting him watch his wooden train zoom by, his visual tracking is honed. This equips your kid with the proper visual stimulation to keep his sense of sight in top shape as he learns about his surroundings through the mirrors of his soul which are his eyes.

Aside from that, wooden trains also work on your kid’s sense of touch. Your kid uses his hands to construct and build pieces of creations through his wooden train set and by engaging in this activity, he is able to experience many different textures and tactile stimulation that are necessary to nourish and boost his sense of touch.

A combination of the sense of sight and touch is also being worked on during an activity with his wooden toy train specifically the skill called hand to eye coordination wherein your kid directs the position and motion of his hands to respond to information fed by his visual senses, such as reaching out or grasping and holding a toy train piece.

The sense of hearing can also come into play during wooden train activities by allowing your kid to listen to train sounds and other songs and music during the activity.

Of equal importance is how wooden trains further refine your kid’s senses by helping him how to control his movement and body parts, by engaging him in activities where your kid figures out how things work, by improving your kid’s muscle control and fine motor skills and by teaching your little one to use his imagination and to learn how to solve simple problems.
